6 Month Project Log

A decision I made and committing to

BABegli Amanov

This idea came from two people. Jim Rohn and James Clear. The first one talked about making a commitment to a specific goal for exactly 6 months. He explains it as follows: 1 month is too short to gain enough data, 1 year could be a daunting idea, and 6 months is the exact time slot to have enough time to see results, without the fear of committing to something for too long.

James Clear, on the other hand, writes about people's ability to think about habits as something we have to commit our entire life to. He says: "People sometimes feel so attached to their habits." What does it mean? It means you, I, we don't have to force ourselves to something for our entire life. It means there are habits that serve you seasonally. Be it a year, 6 months, 3 months, and so on. He recalls a moment when his writing habits served him well, while he was writing his book, Atomic Habits. When it's done, he can now forgo this habit. The same could be useful for you.

And what does it have to do with me personally? I was racking my brain and overthinking about what should now be a priority for the next couple of months. Why? Well, because I have plenty of options, unfortunately. I was already talking about My TikTok Channel, and I also have a YouTube channel — even two of them — and both serve different purposes. One has just one single video (It is in German however) about forgetting perfectionism when it comes to starting something. The second YouTube channel has shorts about World of Warcraft. As you can see, these are completely different topics. And there's also this website, where I publish my work about productivity, mindset, etc. So my question was: what should I do, and in which order?

But then, all of a sudden, I had this thought: why don't I just use the right seasonal habit (James Clear) with the right time window (Jim Rohn)?! A project-based approach. Armed with these two concepts, I am ready to start. What? A full commitment to content creation on TikTok. And afterward, I can give myself permission to do the other thing. It was a relief, I can tell you. I made a decision to commit to my TikTok channel for the next half year, and not just commit but go all in without distracting myself with other projects. Full 6 months of content creation. I will document this journey along the way to keep track of how it goes. Updates will be posted here.

You might benefit from this approach as well. Pick a goal, an idea, or any skill you would like to learn, and give yourself permission to commit to it for 6 months and not a day longer (unless you wish for more). And just observe how it feels. Make some notes so you have some data when the time is up. Reflection is a good tool to gain some sort of clarity. It helps me a lot. I have a journal where I make notes, and I often gain a lot of value from my past notes. Use it!

That's all I have for you today. Check out my other Writing for similar content. It ain't much, but each week I put something out there. Have fun!

Update — 07.09.2026

It's been about 2 weeks since I started posting each day on my TikTok and YouTube channels. Today, I feel my early excitement slowly fading away and the real cost of this undertaking sets in. My wish to quit is growing. I already have to force myself to carry on. The reason? There are even 2 of them. Expected results vs reality and the old fashioned Boredom.

The first, which hits even harder (naively) of those 2, expected results vs what I get in real. I hoped to have more views, more comments, more interactions with my content, more from everything but it feels like the more I try, the less results I get. I mean, there are definitely 100+ reasons, which can explain why it is so. OK, lets stop here, before it this essay turns into me complaining about how cruel the world is instead of being a useful peace of work.

The second: Boredom visits me so frequently that it has shaped a pattern in my behavior, start something fast and quit this something even faster.

But not this time. I will keep posting until the promised 6 months are out. Whatever it takes! The reason? I want to finally find out what's on the other side of "not giving up" - even when boredom repeatedly whispers me to quit. Familiar?
